The DMC is a unique earth observation (EO) satellite constellation that delivers high frequency imaging anywhere on the globe from a long established and growing collection of satellites. The constellation is coordinated by DMC to deliver high quality commercial earth imaging services. Alsat-1 (Algeria), launched in 2002, has become the first satellite of the constellation.

At present, 6 satellites belonging to Algeria, UK, Spain, China and Nigeria are operating in orbit. All satellites are in solar-synchronous orbit to provide daily global coverage with surveys. The Bejing-1 satellite (China), launched in 2005, has a spatial resolution of 32 m and a survey width of 600 km. Second-generation UK-DMC-2 (UK), Deimos-1 (Spain), Nigeriasat-X (Nigeria) satellites were launched in 2009–2011, their spatial resolution improved to 22 m. These include the last of the launched satellites. Alsat-1B. Satellite Nigeriasat-2 (Nigeria) belongs to the third generation of DMC satellites.

Benefits:

  • Countries, regions, continents rapidly covered

  • Cost effective monitoring tool

  • Timely image collection within short acquisition windows

  • Ideal for wide-area change detection, disaster monitoring, land cover mapping, environmental monitoring, forestry and agriculture

  • Rapid delivery of the data

Applications:

  • The DMC group provides observation of disaster areas in the framework of the International Charter “Space and Major Disasters”;
  • Satellites are shooting in the interests of their states to solve problems of agriculture, forestry, etc.
